NATURE OF HUMAN NATURE
Sia
is taking on Kim Kardashian over her love of fur.
Sia
took to Twitter on June 21 to call out Kardashian over her tendency to step out
in real fur, asking the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star if she’d consider
swapping out her fur heavy wardrobe for faux versions.
“Hey
@KimKardashian I think you’re lovely,” Sia began her tweet, asking Kim, “Would
you consider going fur free? This is what animals go through for it” alongside
the link to a graphic YouTube video about the fur industry titled “Under the
Fur Coats: Rabbits’ Screams of Death.”
A
number of Sia’s fans followed suit on the social media site, responding to
Sia’s heartfelt tweet to Kim with pleas of their own in the hopes of convincing
Kardashian to turn to faux fur.
“Yes
Kim [please]… it’s really important to treat animals with the respect as
humans,” Sia fan @siaislife2 told Kardashian on the 140-character site, while
@PauRP96 tweeted to Kim, “PLEASE GODDESS KARDASHIAN GO FUR FREE
@KimKardashian.”
Animal
organisation PETA also responded to Sia’s tweet to Kim, tweeting out to the
“Cheap Thrills” singer, “Amazing. Thank you for using your voice, as always,
for the animals skinned alive for fur coats. We [love] you.”
Sia’s
plea to Kim came just hours after The Daily Mail reported that Kardashian took
to Snapchat to show off a rack of fur coats, which she captioned, “Late night
fittings,” though Kardashian didn’t clarify in the post if the coats were faux
or real.
Kim
Kardashian is yet to officially respond to anti-fur Sia’s plea, though she did
take to the social media shortly after the Australian singer called her out to
celebrate National Selfie Day.
“Wait
u didn’t think I would forget about National Selfie Day! DUH,” Kim tweeted out,
alongside a snap of her torso in what appeared to be a pretty revealing corset,
failing to acknowledge Sia’s message, which so far has more than 4,000
retweets.
But
Sia’s call-out certainly isn’t the first time Kardashian has been blasted for
her love of fur.
After
numerous calls to ditch the fur by anti-fur supporters, Kardashian was flour
bombed because of her controversial clothing choice back in 2012 as she walked
a red carpet in New York.
PETA
denied that they were directly behind the attack in a statement issued to TMZ
but claimed they supported the individual who opted to throw flour over Kim,
who was not wearing fur at the time.
“PETA
has tried everything from polite letters to public protests, but Kim Kardashian
has not been moved by the news that animals are beaten, electrocuted, and even
skinned alive for real fur garments,” a statement from the animal organisation
stated of Kardashian.
“Whoever
threw that flour may reach her when our polite appeals did not,” the anti-fur
organisation added.
Kim
later defended her decision to wear real fur during an appearance on NBC’s The
Today Show, where she claimed that it was her “choice” to drape herself in the
animal item.
“I
believe everyone has the choice of what they want. It’s not illegal to buy
fur,” Kim said on the morning show. “I think it’s a personal choice but I don’t
think it’s okay to assault anyone.”
However,
after years of being slammed by animal rights groups, earlier this year, Kim
allegedly vowed to only wear fur taken from roadkill animals.
According
to The Daily Star, an insider close to Kardashian revealed back in January that
“Kim doesn’t want to upset anti-fur fans, especially by the way she dresses
North,” after she was blasted for dressing daughter North West in what appeared
to be a large fur coat.
The
insider then admitted that Kardashian has supposedly vowed to replace her furs
“with a new roadkill wardrobe.”
What
do you think of Sia’s decision to call out Kim Kardashian over her love of fur?
